Add one line per scheduled job - timing, command and an optional comment - and copy the finished crontab.

What is a crontab?

A crontab is the list of scheduled commands for one user on a Linux server. Each line has a schedule (five time fields) and the command to run, and lines starting with # are comments. This generator lets you add jobs one by one and gives you the finished crontab to paste in.

How to generate a crontab

  1. Enter the schedule for the first job (for example 0 3 * * * for 3 AM daily).
  2. Enter the full command, with absolute paths, and an optional comment.
  3. Add more entries if you need them, then click Generate.
  4. Run crontab -e on the server and paste the result.

Keep the comments: in six months they are the only record of why each job exists. If a job maintains your website (backups, cache warm-up, renewals), add the site to JustChecker monitoring so a broken job shows up as an alert instead of a surprise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Run crontab -e on the server, paste the lines at the end, save and exit. crontab -l lists what is installed. Use sudo crontab -e only for jobs that really need root.

One line that runs every minute: * * * * * cd /path/to/project && php artisan schedule:run >> /dev/null 2>&1. Laravel's scheduler decides which of your tasks are due.

Cron runs with a minimal environment: a short PATH and no shell profile. Use full paths to programs (/usr/bin/php, not php) and redirect output to a log file so you can see errors.
