Domain resolves via DNS

Enter a domain to fetch its A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SOA and CAA records together - the quickest way to confirm a new site or a DNS change is set up right.

What is a DNS lookup?

A DNS lookup asks the Domain Name System which records are published for a domain. This tool returns the main record types in one place - A and AAAA (IP addresses), MX (mail servers), TXT (verification and email policies), NS (nameservers), CNAME, SOA and CAA - so you can see exactly how a domain is configured.

How to look up a domain's DNS records

  1. Enter the domain, for example example.com, in the box above.
  2. Click Look Up DNS.
  3. Check the A/AAAA records point to your hosting, and the MX records to your email provider.
  4. After changing a record, remember that resolvers may keep the old value until its TTL runs out.

Related checks

Save a copy of these records before you move hosts or change DNS providers - it is the quickest way to rebuild a zone if something goes missing. JustChecker can keep that snapshot for you and email you whenever any record changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Resolvers keep records until their TTL runs out, so changes can take from a few minutes to a day to show everywhere. The DNS Propagation Checker shows which public resolvers already see the new value.

The A record (IPv4) and, if you have one, the AAAA record (IPv6) point the domain to your web server. A CNAME can do the same for a subdomain such as www by pointing it at another hostname.

Usually the domain has no active nameservers, has expired, or its DNS zone is empty. Check the nameservers with the Nameserver Lookup and the registration with the Domain Expiry Checker.
