What is an XML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a file listing the URLs of a website that you want search engines to find, optionally with last-modified dates. It helps crawlers discover pages - especially new or deeply linked ones - faster. This checker looks for the sitemap and confirms it can be fetched.

How to check a website's sitemap

  1. Enter the domain in the box above.
  2. Click Check Sitemap.
  3. Confirm a sitemap was found and loads without errors.
  4. Submit the sitemap URL in Google Search Console and reference it in robots.txt.

Related checks

Once your sitemap loads cleanly, submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools so new pages are found sooner. JustChecker keeps checking that the sitemap stays reachable after plugin updates and redesigns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly at /sitemap.xml or /sitemap_index.xml. Wherever it is, list it in robots.txt and submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Only pages you want in search results: canonical, indexable URLs that return 200. Leave out redirects, noindex pages, duplicates and private areas.

It is not essential when every page is linked from the menu, but it costs nothing, speeds up discovery of new pages and gives you useful indexing reports in Search Console.
