How can I find out who hosts a website?

Every website runs on a server with an IP address, and every IP address belongs to a network registered with a regional internet registry. This tool resolves the domain to its IP, reads the owner of that network from the registry, and combines it with the server's reverse DNS name to name the hosting company. It also reads the nameservers and mail servers to show who runs the DNS and the email.

How to check who hosts a website

  1. Type the website address, for example example.com, in the box above.
  2. Click Find Host.
  3. Read the hosting company, server IP and country at the top.
  4. Scroll down for the DNS provider and the email provider.

Knowing the host tells you where to raise a support ticket, whom to report abuse to, and what you would be moving away from if you switch. If the answer is Cloudflare, the site is behind a CDN that hides the real server - the DNS and email providers above are still accurate. Add the site to JustChecker and you will be told if it moves to a new server or goes down.

Frequently Asked Questions

It looks up the IP address the domain points to, then asks the regional internet registry (through RDAP) which organisation owns that block of addresses. The reverse DNS name of the server is used as a second clue. That organisation is normally the hosting company or the cloud platform the host rents from.

When a site uses Cloudflare (or another CDN) visitors connect to the CDN, not to the origin server, so the public IP belongs to the CDN. The real host is deliberately hidden and cannot be found from outside. The DNS and email providers shown are still correct.

Not necessarily. The registrar is where the domain name is registered and renewed; the host is where the website files run. Many sites register the domain in one place and host it in another - use the Registrar Lookup to see the registrar.
